Q:
When she said that it was hurtful to hear that her boyfriend was mean about her hometown kind of insulting it, I instantly thought of what I would react to thaf if I were her in that situation. Interestingly, I was able to understand how judgemental and quick-tempered or even very protective of myself. That's because rhe first image that came to my mind was me telling myself that he can't be my groom and isn't a type of guy I am going to spend the rest of my life with like he's going be a bad influence to me, period. And let me back off a huge step from the relationship.
I mean that's one time thing but I am able to conclude what to do with him right away, not considering reconciliation at all. Maybe my perfectionism affects my social life. Or, I imagined reacting that way just because I wasn't fully into the person. 听起来自然吗?

Q:
Why is this "I take it back" and not "I'll take it back"? I can't understand why it should be present tense.
ーWhat you said was hurtful. I'm sorry. I take it back.
ーWhat you said was hurtful. I'm sorry. I take it back.
A:
Because you're retracting the statement now, when you're apologising. "I'll take it back" would be if you're going to take it back in the future, but most of the time, people take back what they said at the same time that they apologise for it, so it's in present tense. Does that make sense?
