请教我使用 what do ppl mean when they say “sorry for the cringe”? and please show me some example situations with this sentences的例句。
A:
When you cringe, you "experience an inward shiver of embarrassment or disgust". So you watch something and it makes you feel embarrassment or disgust. If someone causes you to be embarrassed or disgusted, then they caused the cringe, so they'd apologize for it.
Imagine an adult dressing up as a pony and running around in public. If you watched that, you'd probably feel a little embarrassed for them, a little disgusted that they chose to do that, and also you might find it funny. They caused you to cringe.

Q:
I searched 'get in shape'and ppl say it means you aren't in shape now so try to have a healthy/nice body
Then what if someone says'It helps me to get in shape'? Does it mean s/he thinks they aren't in shape now?Or is it the same meaning as keep in shape? 这个在 英语 (美国) 里怎么说?
Then what if someone says'It helps me to get in shape'? Does it mean s/he thinks they aren't in shape now?Or is it the same meaning as keep in shape? 这个在 英语 (美国) 里怎么说?
A:
alright so when someone says “it helps me get in shape” don’t use “to” in the sentence, it sounds a bit off. When someone says that it means that they are trying to get in shape or trying to stay in shape. So it can mean both getting in shape and staying in shape but it depends on what you are DOING. exercise is a way to get in shape and STAY in shape, so is eating healthy. Dieting is a way to get in shape when you are not
Q:
why do some ppl use ‘doughnut’ and others use ‘donut’? 这个在 英语 (美国) 里怎么说?

Q:
I heard ppl say location-wise, temperature-wise. what do they mean? how you use the suffix "wise"? 这个在 英语 (美国) 里怎么说?
A:
That's a very good question. I remember thinking about this as I grew up learning English.
the 'wise' is just adding onto the word that you are talking about, in those terms.
for example, I can tell you, location-wise, the house is too far away from any transportation. however, the house itself is very nice.
another example, the weather is terrible today, but temperature-wise, it is at the perfect temperature.

Q:

If not exactly, how is it different?.
Thank you, in advance.
A:
"So, what's your angle?" means what are you trying to get out of it. The phrase is usually used when someone does something they normally wouldn't do, so it's strange that they would want to do it.
For example, a kid tells his parents that he will take out the trash and clean the house. The parent would say, "So, what's your angle?" And then the kid asks for something like $50 to buy a video game.
If someone asks you, "Hey, do you want to go out to eat?" The response would be, "Sure, what do you have in mind?" Meaning, what do you want to do or where do you want to go?

Q:
I found ppl tend to say with "get to + verb" rather than stating plainly the "verb" itself.
For example,,
"We didn't get to spend lots of time together"
other than
"We didn't spend lots of ~(ditto)~."
Could u specify what the differences are?.
Is that the same as saying,,,
"we have come to~~"???

A:
@Grat: Saying "get to + verb" specifies that there was no opportunity to so said verb rather than just saying the verb which is more vague.
For example, "I didn't get to see the movie." implies that there was no opportunity for me to see the movie or something was preventing me from doing so. If I has said "I didn't see the movie." there could be any reason that I did not see it.
