@Chorla- this is a bit difficult to explain, but this formation “though much” would only be seen in older literature - it is not strictly wrong, it’s just very odd-sounding in modern writing.
However, yes, you can use “Much as…” instead.
Much as James wanted to go camping with his classmates at the weekend, he had to stay behind to help his mum with the housework.
It still sounds a little odd - I would prefer:
“As much as James wanted to go camping with his classmates at the weekend, he had to stay behind to help his mum with the housework.”
