Lo siento, no entiendo lo que quieres decir con ‘’we’re wanting’’, pero decimos ‘’on the subway’’ como ‘’on the bus’’ porque you can stand up on the subway, bus, plane, etc.

Ahh do you mean waiting for the subway to arrive? That would be ‘’we’re waiting at the subway station.’’ If you mean you are inside the subway train, waiting for it to start maybe, that is ‘’we’re waiting on the subway.’’
