What are the nuances of すみません vs すまんない? I've heard both in apologies, but don't understand the difference.

「すまんない」という言葉はありませんが、
「すまない」のことだと思います。
「すまん」というときもあります。

「すみません」と同じであやまるときの言葉ですが、ていねいではありません。
使えるときは、かなり少ないです。
友人にあやまるときには、「すまない」より「ごめん」が普通ですし。
